Hope Tala
Hope Tala makes R&B threaded with bossa nova guitar - a combination nobody else is really attempting. She told Complex in 2019, plainly, "I didn't realize I was gay until 14," and that she writes about love between women. She took a first-class English degree at Bristol and turned down a Cambridge master's to do music. "Lovestained" landed at No. 8 on Rolling Stone's best songs of 2019, and "All My Girls Like To Fight" made Barack Obama's 2020 list. Her debut album Hope Handwritten arrived in 2025.
