Amber Bain named the project after a Cornish holiday cottage once owned by Kate Winslet, and released the first EP anonymously in 2015 so nobody would know the singer's gender. Bain is openly queer and talks about it constantly - "It shouldn't be avant-garde to talk about a queer relationship" - and has said of gender, "I use whatever pronouns really… it's kind of fluid." In the End It Always Does (2023) was made with queer women in every role in the studio. Married her partner Alyssa in 2025.
